Hi, I’M MEG.

I live in West Hartford, CT with my husband Chris and our baby girl Nell. We love classic American style and bickering about whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher. Glad you stopped by!

Dining room

We are hosting Thanksgiving for the second time this year and I’m so thankful to be able to safely gather our families together! Our dining room has had a few iterations but mostly with pieces from previous rentals. I finally found a dining table that fit the space correctly and made my first large art purchase with the piece featured here that ended up being the inspiration I needed to finish the room. I call it my “November Sky” art and love that the room has a grounded, moody vibe without the weight of dark colors or heavy finishes.

Everything was in place aside from the rug - I loved the one we had in here but the olive tones were too warm and it worked much better in our living room, where it lives now. I struggled to find something light but DURABLE and… in stock!! I knew I wanted to add texture in here to play up the knubby linen of the drapes but natural fibers like jute are so tough to clean. We use our dining room every day for all meals so I needed something that could withstand daily wear and tear in a busy household.

I also wanted to finish install in here before Thanksgiving which proved challenging with current delivery timelines. Thankfully Serena & Lily reached out about a new feature on their site that allows you to search each category by availability (so smart, thank you!) and I was able browse performance rugs that could be delivered within 2-4 weeks. I found this one that is actually indoor-outdoor performance, meaning I can literally hose it off if needed, but it’s still incredibly soft and looks like an indoor rug! It has the texture I wanted and the colors are the perfect cool/warm mix of creams and grays that bring the room together perfectly. It’s the perfect time to order any finishing touches in time for holiday gatherings in December! I strongly debated this other performance option and would have totally sprung for this beauty if we didn’t have a toddler and a pup to accommodate!

I am so glad to have finally rounded out this space, successfully integrating my favorite pieces like my rattan bar cart and Carson end chairs that I’ve had for a while. My bamboo chairs are vintage and I had to cushions made at a local upholsterer. If I was doing them now I’d be tempted to use this beautiful fabric (can you tell I’m having a green moment :) I also love the smooth white finish of these that feel just as classic. Our light fixture was a bargain find and I recently added these shades to take it up a notch. This one is only $177 and it includes the shades! I love how they make the room glow at night. I want to install a picture light over the painting but haven’t figured out what finish I’d like yet, although this is the front runner. All other art in the room is vintage from either yard sales or thrifting trips, as are most pieces in our corner cabinet. Fun fact: the family that had our house built in 1958 had the choice of this cabinet or an in-home speaker system. I’m glad they chose the cabinet!

Other in-stock decor adds I love for the holidays: these taper candles in fun colors like mustard or cerulean, these bobbin candlesticks, these woven placements and of course my big wooden bowl that houses apples in the fall and nice chunky pinecones in the winter. I would keep an eye out for Black Friday sales at Serena & Lily!

Thank you to Serena and Lily for generously gifting the rug for this space.
