Hi, I’M MEG.

I live in West Hartford, CT with my husband Chris and our baby girl Nell. We love classic American style and bickering about whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher. Glad you stopped by!

Winter Tresses

Every November(ish) my hair starts to drive me nuts - it's normally been 6 months too long since my last trim, my hair is fried from a summer outside + on the water, and every hair product I own starts to feel totally ineffective. This year was the first year I felt like I seamlessly transitioned into the drier season so I thought I'd share what's been working for me!

1.  Shampoo: I use a rather stunning high-low combo of the most expensive shampoo I've ever owned (insert eye-roll... I SWEAR it's incredible!) and the cheapest drug store brand possible! I have a crazy dry scalp (TMI? nothing gross, it just gets itchy!) and my dermatologist told me to use Head and Shoulders. Works like a charm! Seriously. And it's like $5 (or $9.94 but seriously for a gallon). I wash my hair every other day with this stuff. It can build up, however, so once I week I use the Oribe magic sauce (usually on Monday morning so I feel extra fresh for the week ;) When I tell you this shampoo turns your locks to luscious strands of liquid gold, I mean it. I got it as a sample and squeezed every. last. drop. out of the tube. and then sent C to Blue Mercury to buy it for me so that I could claim ignorance re: the cost. There is also a masque version that I'm too scared to try because I'm sure I'd love that too.

2. Conditioner: I have a really hard time with conditioners, they are always way too heavy or way too light. I haven't totally nailed this one yet but so far I've been using a combo of this Kerastase conditioner and this Bumble + Bumble version. I hate how Kerastase smells but it definitely works.

3. Post-shower I've been misting on this Prep spray from Bumble + Bumble. I like using it in the winter as both a heat protectant and a SUPER light leave-in conditioner. My favorite blow-out stylist told me that it really helps product distribute evenly which I kind of thought was B.S. but can now confirm is a real thing - especially when your hair is long.

4. I am still using this Redken Velvet Gelatine blow-dry gel which says something since I normally get sick of hair products when they are about half empty. You know how it goes - just empty enough that I feel justified trying something new but just full enough that I feel bad throwing it away so I stuff it in the linen closet until I clean it out a few months later. Anyway, this is a year-round good one.

5. I finish things off with this GAME CHANGER of a curling iron. I found mine at TJMaxx, I had never seen an extended iron before and my GOD is it epic if you have long hair! I swear it cuts the potential damage down by 50% since I curl my whole head in less than half the sections I used to. LOVE it. I have the 1 1/4" size. I add a few spritzes of C's hair spray (not kidding - I  don't even know the brand) and I'm good to go.

There you have it! I'd love any winter hair tips y'all might have!
