Hi, I’M MEG.

I live in West Hartford, CT with my husband Chris and our baby girl Nell. We love classic American style and bickering about whose turn it is to unload the dishwasher. Glad you stopped by!

Rugs That Make the Room

Rugs That Make the Room

It might have taken us three years but we finally completed the office last week with this flush mount as the final touch. I actually saw these lights in the Grand Hotel in Kennebunkport on one of our visits and loved their subtle nautical vibe - so happy to see them in our home two years later!

Anyway, back to our office. Most of home is fairly neutral and we knew when we moved in that this room would be our most daring space in terms of color. That said, while the walls are bold against the white built-ins, it’s still a relatively simple room. Therefore we felt like we could have a bit of fun with the rug! It’s amazing how much a great rug can really change a space.

As we’ve started to make some real progress in our home, we’ve come to appreciate great rugs as probably the most critical way for us to define a room. As much as I wish we were, we simply aren’t wallpaper people (too indecisive!) and I prefer light, bright spaces that don’t lend themselves to much wall color experimentation. I also highly dislike clutter so it takes a lot for me to commit to art or non-functional decor. Rugs are the perfect solution as they provide a ton of personality, are easy to move around, and really help define your style.

The Ryder Denim Rug in our office for example really takes the space from a bit too nautical/preppy ("before" photos here) and grounds it as more transitional. It’s also great for hiding messes made by tiny toddler friends :) I’ve rounded up a bunch of other Serena & Lily rugs from classic to bold that I think would absolutely make a space, below:

For us, we’re really enjoying settling in to our completed space and look forward to adding a little table and chairs soon that we heard Santa might be bringing for Nell. Until then, I love having my morning coffee in her before we kick off our busy day or I get to work at my desk if I’m working from home. One last note is that this rug is incredibly satisfying to walk on - the little nubs are so therapeutic!

Mirrors, chair, desk, and most shelf objects are vintage.

Thank you to Serena & Lily for providing the rug for this post.
