I summed up 2015 on instagram along with a photo from our wedding. Last year was really one for the record books - both in the happiest ways and the saddest ways. It was certainly one I will always remember. I'm looking forward to 2016... it already feels like a great year and we're hardly a week in. Aside from giving up alcohol for a month, I've set a few important goals for myself this year ((better late than never)):
1. Self Care: As I near the big 3-0 and have been reflecting on my twenties, I've realized that I've sacrificed my wellbeing and health for the last decade in exchange for giving my career 150%. I'm grateful for the many ways in which my hard work has paid off but I am starting to feel the effects of neglecting my personal care. My goal this year is to remember to put my health and wellbeing first in small ways (getting to bed early) and big ways (committing to my health by sticking to the gluten-free diet that I know decreases my migraines by over 50%, even though it's hard to maintain).
2. Untangle myself from being so personally invested in my job: I consider myself extremely lucky to love what I do. The brand I work for couldn't be a better fit for my personal aesthetic, and that certainly is convenient when strategizing how to market the brand. It comes at a price sometimes, however, because I've definitely become overly emotionally invested in my job. I need to develop my self worth outside of my employment. I think taking advantage of my time out of the office (which is awfully brief these days!) to develop my own interests and style will help me be more well rounded as a person and less emotional about my work life.
3. Screens down: My addiction to my cell phone is out of control! I find myself scrolling through instagram and getting lost on the internet for HOURS after I lay in bed, intending to go to sleep. Chris caught me watching a CNN video while I was BRUSHING MY TEETH the other day and said "new low, Meg." I need to work on disconnecting. My goal is to go "screens down" 1-2 hours before bedtime every day.
What are your new year resolutions and how do you plan to hold yourself accountable? I'd love your suggestions!
